Web 2.0 Networking Site Looking for Web Programmer

I am looking to hire a back engine computer programmer. Our company is a Web 2.0 networking site with some really exciting applications.

Our team includes an Oxford MBA (me) ,a Wharton MBA, and a PhD in computer science who will oversee the database development work.

At present, we are looking for someone to programme the back engine functionality of the web coding. Skillset may include:

Technologies: Java SE/EE, Java Server Pages / JSTL, Struts, Apache Axis, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL.

RDBMS: MySQL 5.0

Software/Tools: Apache Tomcat, Apache Http Server, MySQL Administrator, Eclipse, Visual Studio, CVS. Familiar with Linux environments.

Anomaly 2009 is excited to bring you 8 bright, talented artists and 2 studios in for display of their amazing artworks!

[Anomaly] is a fusion of an art workshop and party to be held in Vancouver. This will be the first event of its kind featuring the best local artists and showcase live art demonstrations, keynote speakers, and a lounge party throughout the night from 6pm to 12am. The purpose of the event is to bring 2D/3D artists together and provide a platform for inspiration and creativity.

Website Developer / Technical Co-Founder (CTO) for Early Stage Start-Up

We are looking for a technical co-founder (CTO) to lead the development of an online platform that will unite the sustainability community. It will be an online community for individuals and organizations that are committed to putting sustainability in action. If you’ve got the skills, a passion for technology and sustainability and want to be a part of an exciting start-up than keep reading!

Our CEO has experience in the sustainability sector and has the business skills to execute, but lacks the technical knowledge to build the platform and to lead the technology development. We’ve completed the business plan and are now looking for a technical entrepreneurial-minded person, with strong development skills, to help us implement our plan. Our CEO will lead business development and you will lead technology development. You will be a key component of our team and your work will play a huge role in the future success of this company.

The Position:

We decided to bring tech skills in-house so that we can create a great user experience and continuously adapt and improve our platform. As the CTO, you will be responsible for leading the technology development, including developing the backend of the web site, maintaining the code, updating the web site according to customer feedback, developing new features, fixing bugs, maintaining backups, working on scalability and other suitable development tasks. Initially you will also be responsible for maintenance and technical customer support. Strong backend development skills are a priority. We are looking for a candidate that loves to write code, but if you also have an eye for design and user experience—all the better. As we grow, the position may have you managing a team, but for now, it’s all hands on deck!

Please Note:

This position is funded in part by a government program, which requires that the employee be 30 years or younger at the start date and work a minimum of 30 hours/week for the first year. Applicants should be from the Vancouver or Victoria area. Recent graduates with a portfolio are encouraged to apply!

Requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience building scalable web applications using a Model-View-Controller paradigm and open source software and services
  • Experience programming and building scalable, database driven web sites and applications
  • Solid SQL knowledge and data modeling experience, DBA experience an asset
  • Experience developing a web application with LAMP, Ruby on Rails, Python/Django, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS/HTML and AJAX a definite asset, as is a desire to become an expert in these technologies
  • Experience using Amazon’s Web Services a definite asset
  • Debugging and testing experience
  • Knowledge of data security and keeping customer information safe
  • Familiarity with SEO, landing page optimization, and web analytics a bonus
  • Passionate about web technologies, ability to learn new technologies quickly, and demonstrate an on-going upgrade of web skills and knowledge
  • The ability to take initiative, learn, solve problems, and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as will be working closely with the CEO and technical contractors
  • Desire and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced start-up environment

Responsibilities:

  • Define and document technical specifications, information architecture
  • Develop the web site from the ground up and maintain it
  • Provide application support to users and troubleshoot web site issues
  • System administration tasks
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of features and components
  • Other technical duties as required
